Skipper's Bar & Grill
About This Spot
Nestled along the charming waterfront of L'Anse, Skipper's Bar & Grill welcomes you with a casual, down-to-earth vibe that immediately puts you at ease. Whether you’re stepping inside to escape a crisp Michigan evening or settling onto the patio to soak up a rare sunny afternoon, the atmosphere hums with an easy, neighborly warmth. It’s a space where locals and visitors alike share quiet nods and friendly smiles amidst the gentle clatter of glasses and the inviting aroma of home-style cooking.
The pace here is unhurried, the kind of place where the day’s worries seem to soften, and conversations flow naturally. The staff moves with practiced ease, attentive without rushing, balancing the buzz of a busy crowd with genuine care that never feels rehearsed. There’s a welcoming hum of different voices — a mix of those who’ve made this spot their regular and first-timers drawn by word of mouth or the tantalizing promise of comfort food with a twist.
Dining at Skipper’s is less about ticking boxes and more about sinking into familiar favorites that wear a hint of local flair. The menu offers a hearty selection that effortlessly straddles the line between classic comfort and distinctive delights — from savory sandwiches stacked high to generous plates featuring fresh catches from nearby waters. The flavors are straightforward yet thoughtfully executed, like the kind of meal you’ll remember for the warmth it brings as much as the taste.
There’s something undeniably cozy about sharing a beer flight here or settling into a plate of freshly fried cod after a day spent exploring the Upper Peninsula. On any given day, you might see a crowd gathered for the Friday Fish Fry special, laughter carrying through the air as plates are passed and stories shared. Whether you’re craving something simple like a cheeseburger with homemade fries or more adventurous bites that nod to Cajun spice and local seafood, Skipper’s feels like a place where food encourages connection — both to the land and the people who call it home.
Skipper’s Bar & Grill offers more than just a meal; it offers a momentary escape to a setting where warmth isn’t just about the food, but the faces and the pace of life around you. It’s the kind of local haunt where you can slip into a relaxed rhythm, savor the chatter, and walk out feeling a little more connected to a community that’s as genuine as the food on your plate.

Stopped in for a quick bite and met a lovely waitress and received warm welcomes from locals and visitors inside. Ordered the steak bomb, overall great sandwich but I was a little slow to the second half and the grease caught up with the bun. Highly recommend that you stop in and grab a drink.

Pretty awesome place. Honestly the margarita i had was pretty dang and service was top notch. Food was good you'll hardly ever see me rank food as 5 star so a 4 star is pretty good. Unless you make the greatest steak ever.

Lovely desserts, Cajun grilled fish tasted great. The pizza felt too expensive for the price but thats ok, super cozy on a friday afternoon!

Food is delicious! The whitefish sandwich is great & the coleslaw is perfectly made. Fries are amazing! Ordered some of the specials during the fish fry.

Just stopped in for an appetizer. The place was very busy due to it being 80 degrees in Oct. The bartender/waitress did a fanomonial job keeping up with everything. Would stop again if in the area. Both indoor and outdoor seating.

We were recommended Skippers by the host of our Airbnb and I’m glad we took their recommendation! The loaded buffalo tots were sooo good! I got the jalapeño burger and my boyfriend got the mushroom burger. We were both very happy with the food, and you can’t go wrong with that beautiful view of the bay. The beer flights were awesome and they also had mimosa flights and espresso martini flights. Cute beach and park right across the street with tables. If it were warmer I’d get my food to go and sit at the park! Definitely recommend stopping here for some good food and views. I believe they only serve pizza after 7:30 so if you want a full menu go before then.

I recently visited Skippers Bar &Grill at 9 Front St, in L'Anse, MI. It's a beautiful restaurant that sits just across the street from Lake Superior. A great view. I ordered the mushroom and Swiss hamburger and fries meal. The meal was very good and I tried to make it back there for another meal while I traveled in the area. The place was very clean and just waiting for more guests to serve. Thanks.

Friendly staff, cute restaurant, clean and food was outstanding. Great prices, they even have eight tv’s on with sports. Just a really great place! Enjoyed it so much!
